Susan Jodhan-Sethi

B.A., LL.B., Acc.FM (OAFM), CFDS

Lawyer • Mediator

Susan is certified with the Ontario Association for Family Mediation as an Accredited Family Mediator (Acc.FM) and is a Chartered Financial Divorce Specialist (CFDS) with the Academy of Financial Divorce Specialists. Furthermore, she has experience in corporate law, pension law, benefits consulting, and policy writing; nevertheless, she has returned to her passion for family law matters and strongly advocates for alternative dispute resolution solutions, rather than the more adversarial and costly approaches to resolving family law disputes. Susan is dedicated to the facilitation of mutual consensus between parties that is creative, efficient, and cost-effective.

She obtained her Bachelors degree in Commerce and Sociology from the University of Toronto, and her law degree from the University of Western Ontario. She was called to the Bar in Ontario in 1997. Her knowledge acquired as a former business owner as well as her vast work experience, both in the public and private sectors, provide a broad range of perspectives from which participants may draw upon.

Susan’s practice is restricted to mediation, and task-based consulting with regard to family law issues; however, her broad range of legal, management, and business experience allows for the deployment of various communication and problem-solving strategies that promote empathy and cooperation between parties, while they maintain control over their own process and outcome. Susan also has access to a number of family professionals such as social workers, accountants, and family lawyers for purposes of referral, if additional expertise is required. Most importantly, she is committed to effectively managing the process for participants, so they can make informed decisions and move forward in a mutually acceptable manner.
